Dasypterus golliheri was named by Hibbard (1960). Its type locality is Cragin Quarry Locality 1, which is in an Irvingtonian terrestrial horizon in the Kingsdown Formation of Kansas.
It was recombined as Lasiurus golliheri by Martin (1972) and Kurten and Anderson (1980).
