Taxonomy
Leipsanolestes siegfriedti was named by Simpson (1928) [genotype]. Its type locality is Bear Creek, which is in a Clarkforkian terrestrial horizon in the Fort Union Formation of Montana. It is the type species of Leipsanolestes.
It was recombined as Leptacodon siegfriedti by Simpson (1929), Simpson (1935), Simpson (1945) and Gazin (1949); it was recombined as Entomolestes siegfriedti by McKenna (1960) and Delson (1971); it was recombined as Talpavus siegfriedti by Robinson (1968).
