Taxonomy
Leptomeryx exilis was named by Cook (1934). Its type specimen is HC182 (AMNH 81012), a mandible (part of a right lower jaw with m2 - m3), and it is a 3D body fossil.

It was synonymized subjectively with Leptomeryx evansi by Heaton and Emry (1996).
