Taxonomy
Macrocranion junnei was named by Smith et al. (2002). Its type specimen is UM 93378, a maxilla (right maxilla with P4-M3), and it is not a trace fossil. Its type locality is SC-67, which is in a Wasatchian terrestrial horizon in the Willwood Formation of Wyoming.
