Taxonomy
Hemiacodon jepseni was named by Robinson (1968). Its type specimen is PU 16431, a partial skull (r and l dentaries and maxillae with most of upper dentition (except [lower] P2) represented on one or the other tooth row), and it is a 3D body fossil. Its type locality is White River Pocket, which is in an Uintan terrestrial horizon in the Uinta Formation of Utah.
It was synonymized subjectively with Ourayia uintensis by Szalay (1976); it was recombined as Macrotarsius jepseni by Krishtalka (1978), West (1982), Westgate (1990), Beard et al. (1992) and Gunnell (1995).
