Taxonomy
Ateleodon osborni was named by Schlaikjer (1935) [genotype]. Its type locality is Yoder, which is in a Chadronian terrestrial siltstone/sandstone in the Chadron Formation of Wyoming. It is the type species of Ateleodon.

It was recombined as Megacerops osborni by Kihm (1987).
