Taxonomy
Megalomeryx niobrarensis was named by Leidy (1858) [genotype]. It is a 3D body fossil. Its type locality is Niobrara River (coll. Hayden 1857), which is in a Barstovian/Clarendonian terrestrial horizon in the Loup Fork Formation of Nebraska.
It was recombined as Camelops niobrarensis by Wortman (1898); it was synonymized subjectively with Camelops kansanus by Hay (1902); it was considered a nomen dubium by Webb (1965) and Voorhies (1990).
