Taxonomy
Megatherium mirabile was named by Leidy (1855) [also said to be 1852].
It was recombined as Eremotherium mirabile by Paula Couto (1954), Gazin (1957) and Webb and Wilkins (1984); it was synonymized subjectively with Eremotherium rusconii by Kurten and Anderson (1980); it was synonymized subjectively with Eremotherium laurillardi by Cartelle and De Iuliis (1995) and Hulbert and Pratt (1998).
