Brachycrus rusticus
Taxonomy
Merycochoerus rusticus was named by Leidy (1870). Its type specimen is NM 145, a partial skull (Anterior portion of skull with I1(br.)-M2 (P4 br.) and partial mandible with i1-i2 alv. and i3(rt.)-m3(br.) (p1 br.)), and it is a 3D body fossil. It is the type species of Brachycrus, Merycochoerus (Brachycrus).
It was recombined as Merychyus rusticus by Scott (1890); it was recombined as Ticholeptus rusticus by Loomis (1920) and Thorpe (1937); it was recombined as Brachycrus rusticus by Palmer (1904), Schultz and Falkenbach (1940), Schultz and Falkenbach (1941), Kelly and Lander (1988), Munthe (1988), Lander (1998), Stevens and Stevens (2007) and Stevens et al. (2023).
