Diagnosis

---|---|---|
M. S. Stevens and J. B. Stevens 1996 | The cranial characterization is the same as for the genus, as the most primitive known species. The Subnasal L. is 53% of the Nasal L., premolars are unreduced with a mean pl_P4tpl_M3 of 50% (Table 3), values for the APM3trM3 and APM3/Ht. M3 ratios are 0.98 (mean) and 1.80 (sole) respectively (Tables 4, 5), and TM3/Ht. M3 is 1.80 (sole; Table 6). M.presidioen-
sis differs from M. culbertsoni by a narrower, deeper, and more convex nasal profile, steeper premaxillae, longer face, a more anterior infraorbital foramen, slightly thinned enamel on the middle surfaces of the premolar-molar selenes, and a significantly larger size [Subnasal L., tooth row and tooth measurements, except APM3, Ht. M3s; 11 of 15 measurement categories available for comparison for M. presidioensis (Appendix B) lie within observed ranges of those of M. culbertsoni; exceptions: P1-M3, M1-M3, APM3, TM3] as known from a very small sample which does not include a measurable Sk.
