Taxonomy
Mesocyon brachyops was named by Merriam (1906) [type is from somewhere in the John Day "at Logan Butte"]. Its type specimen is UCMP 1692, a partial skeleton (almost complete cranium and partial pelvis), and it is a 3D body fossil.
