Hypsiops latidens
Taxonomy
Mesoreodon latidens was named by Douglass (1907). Its type specimen is CM 908, a partial skull (a skull and a mandible lacking portions of the angles), and it is a 3D body fossil.
It was recombined as Merycoides latidens by Loomis (1924), Schlaikjer (1934) and Thorpe (1937); it was synonymized subjectively with Mesoreodon chelonyx by Schultz and Falkenbach (1949) and Tabrum and Nichols (2001); it was recombined as Eporeodon latidens by Lander (1998); it was recombined as Hypsiops latidens by Stevens et al. (2023).
