Cycladophora was named by Ehrenberg (1847) [Sepkoski's age data: T Eo R]. It is extant. Its type is Cycladophora davisiana.

It was assigned to Theopiliidae by De Wever et al. (2001); to Nassellaria by Sepkoski (2002); and to Theoperidae by Sharma and Takahashi (2007).
