Taxonomy
Mimocyon longipes was named by Peterson (1919). Its type specimen is C. M. No. 3022, a partial skeleton (fragments of the left lower jaw with P/1 and M/1 in place, fragment of P/1? and the greater portion of the lower canine of the same side; the distal end of the), and it is a 3D body fossil. Its type locality is Myton Pocket, which is in an Uintan terrestrial horizon in the Uinta Formation of Utah. It is the type species of Mimocyon.
It was recombined as Miacis longipes by Simpson (1945); it was recombined as Proviverra longipes by Dawson (1980).
