Dipoides curtus was named by Matthew and Cook (1909). Its type specimen is AMNH 13871 and is a 3D body fossil.
It was recombined as Eucastor curtus by Stout in Skinner and Taylor (1967) and Tedford and Barghoorn (1993); it was recombined as Monosaulax curtus by Stirton (1935), Galbreath (1953), Sutton (1977), Evander (1999) and Korth (1999).
