Taxonomy
Monosaulax progressus was named by Shotwell (1968). Its type locality is Quartz Basin (UO 2465), which is in a Barstovian terrestrial horizon in the Deer Butte Formation of Oregon.

It was recombined as Eucastor progressus by Xu (1994).
