It was recombined as Tetralophodon (Morrillia) barbouri by Osborn (1924); it was recombined as Stegomastodon barbouri by Madden (1986) and Dalquest and Schultz (1992); it was recombined as Morrillia barbouri by Shoshani and Tassy (1996) and Shoshani and Tassy (2005).
