Eutamias ochrogenys was named by Sutton and Nadler (1974) [named as E. townsendii ochrogenys by Merriam 1897; raised to species level]. It is extant.
It was recombined as Tamias ochrogenys by Piaggio and Spicer (2000); it was recombined as Neotamias ochrogenys by Piaggio and Spicer (2001).
