Bathyergoides neotertiarius was named by Stromer (1926) [Bathyergoides neotertiarius, Stromer 1923 is named and dated "Stromer, 1923" in papers (McKenna and Bell, 1997; Pickford, 2008; Bento Da Costa and Senut, 2022). The first time this species has been named and described is into the reference E. Stromer 1926. Reste Land- und Süsswasser bewohnender Wirbeltiere aus den Diamantfeldern Deutsch Südwestafrica. In E. Kaiser (ed.), Die Diamantenwüste Südwest- Afrikas 2:139-141.]. It is a 3D body fossil.

L. Bento Da Costa and B. Senut 2022Emended diagnosis By Lavocat 1973. — The complete series of the
lower cheek teeth consists of five (sic) teeth; there are four upper cheek
teeth bearing four crests, the paracone crest usually separated from the
protocone, sometimes fused with wear; crest of the metacone always sep
arated. Skull very high, with a very characteristic wedge shape. Posterior
area of the skull anteroposteriorly very short. Large infraorbital foramen.
Strong upper incisor which reaches the top of the root of the M3. Lower
incisor touching the anterior face of the condyle, anteriorly to this one.
