Taxonomy
Mytonius hopsoni was named by Robinson (1968). Its type specimen is YPM 15266, a mandible (fragment of right jaw with P4-M2), and it is a 3D body fossil. Its type locality is Myton Pocket, which is in an Uintan terrestrial horizon in the Uinta Formation of Utah.
It was synonymized subjectively with Ourayia uintensis by Szalay (1976); it was recombined as Ourayia hopsoni by Gunnell (1995).
