Taxonomy

Palaeolagus haydeni was named by Leidy (1856). It is a 3D body fossil. Its type locality is Head of Bear Creek (Orellan/Nebraska), which is in an Orellan terrestrial horizon in Nebraska.

Synonyms

Archaeolagus striatus was named by Walker (1931).

It was synonymized subjectively with Palaeolagus haydeni by Dice and Dice (1935), Wood (1940), Green (1942) and Dawson (1958).
Palaeolagus agapetillus was named by Cope (1873).

It was recombined as Tricium agapetilla by Cope (1873); it was synonymized subjectively with Palaeolagus haydeni by Cope (1884), Troxell (1921), Wood (1940), Green (1942) and Dawson (1958).
Protolagus affinus was named by Walker (1931).

It was synonymized subjectively with Palaeolagus haydeni by Wood (1940), Green (1942) and Dawson (1958).
Tricium annae was named by Cope (1873).

It was synonymized subjectively with Palaeolagus haydeni by Matthew (1902), Wood (1940), Green (1942) and Dawson (1958).
Tricium avunculus was named by Cope (1873) [genotype].
