Dictyopodium was named by Ehrenberg (1847) [Sepkoski's age data: T Eo R]. Its type is Dictyopodium eurylophus. It was considered unknown by Ehrenberg (1847).

It was assigned to Theoperidae by Ehrenberg (1847); and to Nassellaria by Sepkoski (2002).
