It was synonymized subjectively with Elotherium by Hay (1902); it was reranked as Archaeotherium (Pelonax) by Macdonald (1951); it was synonymized subjectively with Archaeotherium by Galbreath (1953) and Effinger (1998).
It was assigned to Archaeotherium by Macdonald (1951); and to Entelodontidae by Scott (1940) and Parris and Green (1969).
