Taxonomy
Peratherium californicum was named by Stock (1936). Its type locality is Brea Canyon (Bed CS3), which is in an Uintan terrestrial horizon in the Sespe Formation of California.
It was recombined as Nanodelphys californicus by Lillegraven (1976); it was recombined as Peradectes californicus by Krishtalka and Stucky (1983), Korth (1994), Rothecker and Storer (1996) and Dawson and Constenius (2018).
