Pseudofavosites was named by Gerth (1922) [Sepkoski's age data: P Guad-u P Djhu]. Its type is Pseudofavosites stylifer.

It was assigned to Tabulata by Sepkoski (2002); and to Pseudofavositidae by Hill (1981) and Foster and Twitchett (2014).
