Thinohyus (Bothrolabis) osmonti

Taxonomy
Thinohyus (Bothrolabis) osmonti was named by Sinclair (1905). Its type specimen is UCMP 393, a partial skull (Cranium and mandible), and it is a 3D body fossil. Its type locality is UCMP loc. 839, Black Rock 3, John Day Valley, which is in an Arikareean terrestrial horizon in the John Day Formation of Oregon. It is the type species of Fremdohyus.

It was recombined as Perchoerus osmonti by Hay (1930) and Fremd (1994); it was synonymized subjectively with Thinohyus lentus by Prothero (2009); it was considered a nomen dubium by Wright (1998); it was recombined as Fremdohyus osmonti by Prothero (2016) and Prothero (2021).

W. J. Sinclair 1905Facial region elongate, in profile an even slope from frontals to tips of nasals. Forehead flat between orbits, becoming' slightly convex toward median line. Upper molars increasing little in size posteriorly. M3 without prominent antero-internal style, with narrow heel extending as a shelf across the entire posterior border. Inferior dentition in close series, separated by a long interval from the canine.
