It was recombined as Palaeochoerus socialis by Cope (1879); it was recombined as Perchoerus socialis by Hay (1902), Matthew (1909), Cope and Matthew (1915) and Pearson (1923); it was recombined as Cynorca sociale by Woodburne (1969), Wright and Eshelman (1987), Wright (1998) and Albright (1999); it was recombined as Marshochoerus socialis by Prothero (2015) and Prothero (2021).
