Riphaeolites was named by Yanet (1955) [Sepkoski's age data: S Ludl-u D Emsi].

It was corrected as Rhiphaeolites by Yanet (1956); it was misspelled as Rhiphaeolites by Nikiforova (1977), Hill (1981) and Sepkoski (2002).

It was assigned to Tabulata by Yanet (1956); to Cleistoporidae by Nikiforova (1977) and Hill (1981); and to Tabulata by Sepkoski (2002).
