Taxonomy
Phlaocyon leucosteus was named by Matthew (1899) [genotype]. Its type locality is Merycochoerus Quarry, Martin Canyon, which is in a Hemingfordian fluvial siltstone/sandstone in the Pawnee Creek Formation of Colorado.
