Platygeomys zinseri was named by Goldman (1939). It is extant.

It was recombined as Pappogeomys zinseri by Russell (1968) and Hall (1981); it was recombined as Cratogeomys zinseri by Russell (1953), DeWalt et al. (1993) and Monterrubio et al. (2000).
