Taxonomy
Plesiolestes problematicus was named by Jepsen (1930). Its type specimen is Princeton No. 13291, a mandible (right lower jaw with P3 and M1-3), and it is a 3D body fossil. Its type locality is Rock Bench Quarry, which is in a Torrejonian terrestrial horizon in Wyoming.

It was recombined as Palaechthon problematicus by Krishtalka and Schwartz (1978), Rigby (1980) and Hartman (1986).
