Diplolophus parvus was named by Troxell (1923).

It was recombined as Heliscomys parvus by Hay (1930); it was recombined as Mookomys parvus by Wood (1931); it was recombined as Proheteromys parvus by Wood (1935), Barbour and Stout (1939), Galbreath (1953), Wood (1980) and Korth (1994).
