Taxonomy
Protictops alticuspidens was named by Peterson (1934) [genotype]. Its type specimen is CMNH 11917, a mandible, and it is a 3D body fossil. It is the type species of Protictops.

It was considered a nomen dubium by Lillegraven et al. (1981).
