Taxonomy
Cantalum was named by Pessagno et al. (1979) [Sepkoski's age data: Tr Nori-m J Bajo Sepkoski's reference number: 707,754]. Its type is Cantalum holdsworthi.

It was assigned to Pantanelliidae by Kiessling (1995); to Pantanelliinae by De Wever et al. (2001); and to Spumellaria by Sepkoski (2002).
