Procamelus fissidens was named by Cope (1876).

It was recombined as Protolabis fissidens by Matthew (1924), Galbreath (1953) and Webb (1969); it was recombined as Miolabis fissidens by Frick and Taylor (1971), Cassiliano (1980), Kelly (1992) and Honey et al. (1998).
