Taxonomy
Protolabis transmontanus was named by Cope (1879). It is the type species of Miolabis.

It was recombined as Miolabis transmontanus by Hay (1899), Cope and Matthew (1915), Frick and Taylor (1971), Kelly (1992) and Honey et al. (1998).
