Taxonomy
Protolambda was named by Osborn (1898).

It was synonymized subjectively with Pediomys by Simpson (1929), Hay (1930), Clemens (1966), Sahni (1972) and Montellano (1992).

It was assigned to Amblypoda by Hay (1902); to Pediomyidae by Wilson et al. (2010); and to Pediomyidae by Williamson et al. (2012).
