Pseudaelurus marshi was named by Thorpe (1922). Its type locality is Mouth of Minnechaduza Creek, which is in a Barstovian terrestrial horizon in Nebraska.
It was recombined as Hyperailurictis marshi by Werdelin et al. (2010).
