Taxonomy
Blastomeryx advena was named by Matthew (1907). Its type specimen is AMNH 13014, a mandible, and it is a 3D body fossil. Its type locality is AMNH Rosebud 29, which is in a Harrisonian terrestrial horizon in the Rosebud Formation of South Dakota.
It was recombined as Parablastomeryx advena by Frick (1937); it was recombined as Pseudoblastomeryx advena by Webb (1998), Prothero (2007) and Prothero (2008).
