Taxonomy
Paramys petersoni was named by Matthew (1910). Its type locality is Kennedy's Hole, which is in an Uintan terrestrial horizon in the Uinta Formation of Utah.

It was recombined as Ischyrotomus petersoni by Hay (1930), Wilson (1940) and Wood (1962); it was recombined as Pseudotomus petersoni by Korth (1985), Wahlert (2000) and Dunn and Rasmussen (2007).
