Taxonomy
Felis lacustris was named by Gazin (1933). Its type specimen is USNM 12611, a mandible, and it is a 3D body fossil.

It was recombined as Lynx lacustris by Savage (1960) and Hulbert (1992); it was recombined as Puma lacustris by Seymour (1999).

C. L. Gazin 1933ize of mandible smaller than average of Felis concolor.
Symphysis shallow, with rounded anterior margin not projecting downward so markedly as in F. concolor. Canine short and robust. Cheek-teeth slender with premolars relatively narroweranteriorly and carnassial small.
