Taxonomy
Rhinoceros longipes was named by Leidy (1890).

It was synonymized subjectively with Aphelops malacorhinus by Leidy and Lucas (1896); it was recombined as Aphelops longipes by Cope (1892), Osborn (1904) and Simpson (1930).
