Amplexoides was named by Wang (1947) [Sepkoski's age data: S Ldov-l S Ludl]. It is not extant.

It was assigned to Stauriidae by Hill (1956); to Mucophyllidae by McLean (1985); to Amplexidae by Hill (1981) and Chen et al. (1997); and to Rugosa by Sepkoski (2002).

R. A. McLean 1985Solitary coralla with slender amplexoid major septa of moderate length, although strongly withdrawn from corallite axis, and weakly developed minor septa. Peripheral stereozone generally narrow, but may become wider near calice of mature specimens. Tabulae commonly complete and flat or slightly arched, with variably downturned edges; dissepiments absent.
