Chalicotherium bilobatum was named by Cope (1889).

It was recombined as Oreinotherium bilobatum by Russell (1934); it was recombined as Schizotherium bilobatum by Scott (1941); it was considered a nomen dubium by Skinner (1968), Storer and Bryant (1993) and Coombs (1998).
