Miosciurus ballovianus

Taxonomy
Sciurus ballovianus was named by Cope (1881). Its type specimen is AMNH 6961, a partial skull (A skull, with M1 and M2 and without the occipital region, and parts of right and left mandibular rami), and it is a 3D body fossil.

It was recombined as Miosciurus ballovianus by Black (1963).

Skull flattened dorsally and wide interorbitally; muzzle short and narrow; infraorbital foramen a narrow slit; masseteric fossa ends anteriorly below anterior margin of m1; mental foramen near dorsal border of posterior part of diastema. Anterior cingula of m1 and m2 large, posterior cingula small; incisors strongly compressed.
