Taxonomy
Sigmodon minor was named by Gidley (1922). Its type specimen is USNM 10512, a mandible (Portion of a left lower jaw containing complete dentition ), and it is a 3D body fossil.
It was synonymized subjectively with Sigmodon medius by Kurten and Anderson (1980).
