Taxonomy
Similisciurus maxwelli was named by Stevens (1977) [genotype]. Its type specimen is TMM 40635-90, a mandible ( left jaw fragment with m1-m3), and it is a 3D body fossil. Its type locality is Castolon (TMM 40635), which is in a Harrisonian terrestrial horizon in the Delaho Formation of Texas. It is the type species of Similisciurus.
