Sinopa eximia was named by Leidy (1873). It is a 3D body fossil. Its type locality is Grizzly Buttes, which is in a Bridgerian terrestrial horizon in the Bridger Formation of Wyoming.
It was recombined as Prosinopa eximia by Hay (1902); it was considered a nomen dubium by Gunnell (1998).
