Sinopa pungens
Taxonomy
Stypolophus pungens was named by Cope (1872) [genotype]. It is a 3D body fossil. Its type locality is Cottonwood Creek (Lower Bridger), which is in a Bridgerian terrestrial horizon in the Bridger Formation of Wyoming. It is the type species of Stypolophus.
It was synonymized subjectively with Sinopa rapax by Wortman (1902) and Gunnell (1998); it was recombined as Proviverra pungens by Van Valen (1965); it was recombined as Sinopa pungens by Scott (1892), Matthew (1899), Matthew (1901), Matthew (1909), Matthew and Granger (1915), Gazin (1976) and Morlo et al. (2014).
