Aphroidophyllum was named by Lenz (1961) [Sepkoski's age data: D Gedi D Eife Sepkoski's reference number: 422]. It is not extant.

It was assigned to Ptenophyllinae by Hill (1981); and to Rugosa by Sepkoski (2002).
